Poker – What is a Tell?
November 11th, 2013 by Elliott
[ English ]

Poker is a game of people played through the form of cards. A tell is a pattern that outlines the relative strength of an opponent’s hand. If you participate in internet poker, familiar tells are composed of wagering patterns and time to take action. Brick and motar poker at the brick and mortar casino provides a better chance to identify tells. Along with time tells and wagering patterns, individuals have body tells. Players commonly give away the strength of their cards through actions, eye movements, heart rates, and voices. Poker is a sport of emotion and most individuals can’t control their emotions when cash is involved. In order to notice a tell you need to closely observe your opponents on every single hand. Look for any type of betting pattern or body tell that relates to the strength of their cards. If a competitor always breaths deeply when she has a big hand, that is a tell for absolute strength. If a competitor constantly bets his poor hands with a twitch of his wrist, that is their tell for absolute weakness.

Tells permit you to see further than your own cards and into your opponent’s brain. Focus on everything that your opponent does while she bets in a pot and try to link each move to a given strength of hand. With the ability to notice tells on your competitor, the cards really don’t matter. If your opponent tells you that she is weak, you will be able to raise her with any hand with the understanding that he’ll fold. If your competitor shows you that she is strong, you’ll be able to drop out on very strong hands. There is more to poker than just the hand you’re dealt. Concentrate on your competitor’s mannerisms and your winnings will soar.
