Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to make it to the last table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best players anywhere in the world. While competing in net poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. He frequently competes in the 200/400 NL max buy in of $40, 000. Gus usually buys in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I accept that Gus is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the min takes most of the ability out of deep stack poker. Gus is supposed to be 1 of the best poker players in the world but he cannot buy in for the full amt.. I think television can alter our view of the real world every now and then. The greatest players in the world may be guys you have will not have heard of before. Gus can be seen competing in net poker on Full Tilt. He commonly participates in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his talents in money rounds?
