Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender on the planet by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandpa showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the detrimental feedback from other people kill his ambition of being one of the best poker players on the planet.
Phil started playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying passion for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and always aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
