Internet High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?
February 23rd, 2018 by Elliott

Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to make it to the final table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a large pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest gamblers in the world. While competing in internet poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He regularly competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all in. I believe Hansen is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is penniless, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the game with the min buy-in.

Buying in for the min takes most of the ability out of deep stack poker. Gus is accepted to be one of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total amount. I believe television can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The best players in the world may be players you have will not have heard of. Gus can be seen wagering on internet poker on Full Tilt. He commonly competes in high stakes omaha hi-low and Holdem. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his talents in cash games?
