Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve last table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a big pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest players in the world. While playing online poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He frequently plays in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of $40, 000. Gus usually buys in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I believe Gus is an amazing poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to sit at the table with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the minimum takes a majority of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be 1 of the best poker players in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amount. I think television can skew our perception of the real world at times. The best players anywhere in the world could be players you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be seen betting on net poker on Full Tilt. He usually plays in big stakes Omaha and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in cash rounds?
