Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative feedback from others destroy his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
He started playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he is learning every single day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes errors every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Although Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
